Vote DelGuercio, Milde, MacGregor for Roxbury BOE!

As parents with a long-term stake in Roxbury’s future, we’re running because we believe our schools deserve leadership rooted in both expertise and heart.  Together, we bring a powerful mix of experience in finance, security, curriculum development, and special needs policy—skills that directly impact the quality and safety of our children’s education. Two of us are proud Roxbury High School alumni who chose to raise our families here, and all of us are deeply committed to this community.

We’re not just invested—we’re involved.

Work with the superintendent and administration to develop policies to keep our teachers and students safe in the event of a crisis.

We won’t make promises that we can’t keep….

...but what we will promise is to work hard to keep your kids safe, secure, and successful.

We believe in transparency and trust—and that means being upfront with our community. While we share the desire to give raises to our dedicated teachers and paraprofessionals, invest in cutting-edge technology, and expand programs and services, we must also acknowledge the financial strain our district continues to face because of S2 funding reductions for seven years.

As experienced board members, we understand the weight of making difficult decisions. These challenges demand thoughtful prioritization, ensuring that our most essential needs are met first. If elected, we will collaborate with fellow board members, the Superintendent, Board Attorney, and Business Administrator to shape policies and set goals that keep our district moving forward—despite fiscal constraints.

Our commitment remains clear: to advocate fiercely for our schools, uphold transparency, and practice responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. Education will always be our top priority.

How are Disctrict Decisions Made?

The Board of Education plays a vital role—but it’s essential to understand where its responsibilities begin and end. Many tasks fall under the purview of the Superintendent or Business Administrator, while the Board’s role is often to provide oversight and support. This quick guide breaks down who handles what.

  • Policy Development: Create and adopt policies that govern school operations in compliance with state and federal laws.

  • Oversight & Governance: Ensure the school district is well-run by providing direction—not managing day-to-day operations.

  • Superintendent Accountability: Hire and evaluate the superintendent, who implements board policies and manages district operations.

  • Budget Approval: Review, modify, and adopt the annual school budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with educational goals.

  • Curriculum Oversight: Approve curriculum and instructional materials recommended by the superintendent and staff.

  • Community Representation: Serve as the community’s voice, balancing the needs of students with the concerns of taxpayers and parents.

  • Collective Decision-Making: Act only as a board—not as individuals. Decisions must be made in legally constituted meetings.

  • Public Engagement: Provide opportunities for public comment and foster transparent communication with stakeholders.

  • Legal Compliance: Ensure district operations adhere to laws, regulations, and mandates from the NJ Department of Education and State Board.

How is Roxbury affected by the S2 cuts?

  • Since 2019, Roxbury has lost $7.7 million in state aid after being classified as “overfunded” under the S2 formula.

  • These ongoing cuts have placed significant pressure on the district’s ability to maintain essential services. While the impact varies year to year, district leaders have repeatedly warned that continued reductions could lead to even deeper consequences.

  • To cope, Roxbury has been forced to make difficult staffing decisions—resulting in larger class sizes and increased caseloads for counselors. Tight budgets also strain salaries and benefits, making it harder to retain the dedicated professionals our students rely on every day.
